If your co-workers don't seem to be getting much done today, you might want to take a peek at their smartphone or tablet -- Angry Birds Space has touched down in the App Store, promising to jettison your productivity like so much space junk.
Rovio Mobile has released Angry Birds Space, the latest edition of those P.O.'ed birds which finds the fowl blasting off into outer space itself. If you haven't been paying attention, the Angry Birds titles are the number one mobile game of all time, and the new interstellar edition promises to continue that storied history.
"After a giant claw kidnaps their eggs, the Angry Birds chase it into a wormhole and find themselves floating in a strange new galaxy -- surrounded by space pigs! Luckily the Angry Birds have super powers of their own," the app description reads. "Angry Birds Space features 60 interstellar levels on planets and in zero gravity, resulting in spectacular gameplay ranging from slow-motion puzzles to lightspeed destruction. With regular free updates, new in-app purchases, brand new birds, brand new superpowers, and a whole galaxy to explore, the sky is no longer the limit!"
Note that this is an entirely new app, which means you'll have to pony up 99 cents for the iPhone edition, $2.99 for the iPad version or $4.99 for the Mac -- it's not simply an update to an existing app like Angry Birds Seasons. But hey, there are new birds, new superpowers, zero-gravity space adventures and you can do trick shots using the gravity of nearby planets -- so what's not to like?
Rovio notes that third-generation iPod touch models (the ones with 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage capacities) are unable to run Angry Birds Space, despite being listed in the app requirements as compatible. "The device consists of second-generation hardware which is not currently supported," the app description notes -- so buyer beware.
Angry Birds Space is available now for the iPhone/iPod touch or an HD-sized iPad version from the App Store and requires iOS 4.0 or later; the OS X version is also live in the Mac App Store.
