Cubby: LogMeIn Thinks You Might Need One More Cloud Sharing Service

CubbyBetween Dropbox and Box and SugarSync and countless others, does the world need one more cloud sharing service? The makers of LogMeIn seem to think so, which is why Cubby is being rolled out by invitation only preview today.

LogMeIn Inc. has announced an invitation only beta of its new Cubby cloud data service which promises to "simply and securely share information across PCs, Macs, iPads, iPhones, Android devices, or with other people." You'll need to hit the Cubby website and enter your email address to be considered for the beta, which includes what's fast becoming the customary 5GB of cloud storage.

"When it comes to sharing data in the cloud today, most solutions on the market are ultra simple but inflexible, or highly flexible but inherently complex. We see Cubby as an opportunity to deliver an ideal balance of simplicity and flexibility," said Marton Anka, LogMeIn's CTO. "It is designed to adapt to the way people naturally interact with their information -- to deliver the benefits of the cloud without forcing people to change their behavior."

The service promises to make any folder a "cubby" -- simply choose an existing Mac or PC folder on your computer to push it to the cloud (shades of SugarSync), or use "My Cubby" as a central depository for files you want to save, similar to how Dropbox works.

The universal Cubby app for the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch is already live in the App Store and requires iOS 5.0 or later, and a similar free app for Android can be found in the Google Play Store. Mac and PC clients will be available once your registration has been accepted, along with a web-based client.

But first, you'll need to hit the Cubby website, enter your email address and get that first email that reads, "Thanks for your interest in Cubby. We add a limited number of beta users each day. You'll get another email, when it's your turn. We'll get back to you as soon as possible! For now, thanks for your patience." Curses!
