Photographers are always looking for ways to geotag their images, and return7's PlaceTagger has been one of the best methods on the App Store. The developer has now introduced an all-new version 2.0, rewritten from the ground up with native iPad support, iCloud sync and even a Mac version as well.
return7 has announced the availability of PlaceTagger 2.0, a significant update to the company's iOS geotagging solution for photographers. Sync, shoot and tag -- PlaceTagger records location data as you shoot, while maximizing battery life. When you're finished, simply export GPX track files and geotag your images using Aperture 3 or other pro photography software.
The big story with PlaceTagger 2.0 is the app is now a universal build, bringing native support for the iPad, complete with Retina Display graphics for Apple's latest tablet. Users can now record location data on the iPhone or 3G/4G-equipped iPads, then use Apple's Camera Connection Kit to geotag those JPEG images right on the iPad itself.
Leaving no stone unturned, the developer has also introduced a new PlaceTagger for Mac application to the Mac App Store, which allows tagging of more file formats including RAW image files from a digital SLR. The Mac app also allows for timestamp adjustments in case your camera and iPhone clocks weren't properly synchronized while recording location data.
PlaceTagger uses iCloud to sync location data with improved recording precision and an all-new user interface that will surely win the developer a legion of loyal new fans.
PlaceTagger 2.0 for iOS is available now from the App Store for $4.99; the update is free for existing users, but requires iOS 5 or later. The developer also notes that location data can't be migrated from version 1.0. PlaceTagger for Mac is also available from the Mac App Store for the same price.
