Users love Dropbox and with good reason: It keeps our stuff conveniently available in the cloud whenever we need it. There's just one problem: Creating links to share these files with others has never been exactly easy -- until today.
Dropbox has introduced a new way to share your files with others and it's so simple, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. The service now offers a simple "get link" button across all of its clients -- web, desktop and mobile. Select a file or folder, choose "get link" and paste the URL wherever you want for sharing.
"Now you can make links to files or folders in your Dropbox," the company exclaims. "Quickly share your photos, docs and videos with friends and colleagues -- even if they don't have Dropbox!"
Link sharing tackles even large file, and an entire folder can be included so there's no need to create ZIP files. "Since your stuff is already in Dropbox, you can share it in a snap -- no setup required," the website touts.
"Anyone with the link gets access to a snazzy page where they can view (but not edit) your stuff," The Dropbox Blog explains. "Our gallery pages give your photos, videos, and even docs the gorgeous, full-browser view they deserve. This means that people who follow your link can see pictures, look at presentations, and watch home videos without having to download and open them separately.
"But just in case a friend wants to save that picture or PDF for later, they can choose to either download it or save it straight to their Dropbox," the blog adds.
If the "get link" option sounds familiar, you're probably a Dropbox beta user, as the company has been refining the new feature since last year. It's now ready to roll out to everyone, so get linking today!
